Mask use mandatory at Shaheed Minar

The people willing to go the Central Shaheed Minar to pay homage to language movement martyrs must wear face masks, decided the Dhaka University authorities on Sunday.

Nobody will be allowed on Dhaka University campus without masks, the university decided.

The Dhaka University authorities made the decision in a meeting on preparations for observing ‘Amar Ekushey February and International Mother Language Day’ amid COVID-19 situation.

The meeting was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building on the campus

In addition, a maximum of 5 representatives from each organisation or institution and a maximum of 2 individuals will be allowed to place wreaths at a time at the Shaheed Minar.

DU vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman presided over the meeting while pro-VC ASM Maksud Kamal, treasurer Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, DU senate and syndicate members, registers, deans, hall provosts, department chairs, proctors, teachers’ association president and general secretary, and officers of concerned ministries were present at the meeting. 

The university also formed a central committee with law faculty dean and Dhaka University Teachers’ Association president Rahmat Ullah as the coordinator and proctor AKM Golam Rabbani as the member secretary.
