Two UP chairs sent to jail over Tk 2,000cr laundering

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent two union parishad chairmen to jail on charges of laundering Tk 2,000 crore.

They are Belayet Fakir, chairman of Kanaipur union parishad in Faridpur and Shahidul Islam Majnu, chairman of Isan Gopalpur union parishad in the same district.

They surrendered to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes on Tuesday and applied for bail. After hearing their bail pleas, the judge rejected their bail applications and sent them to jail.

Additional public prosecutor of the court Tapas Kumar Pal confirmed the matter to New Age.
