Mohammedan Sporting Club began their Bangladesh Premier League campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Arambagh Krira Sangha at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
Mohammedan’s Malian forward Souleymane Diabate opened the scoreline in the 19th minute with a header from Jafar Iqbal’s cross.
Nigerian midfielder Mohammd Abiola Nurat doubled the lead 11 minutes later with a composed finish from a through pass from Mohammad Atiquzzaman.
Local forward Aminur Rahman Sajib scored the third goal of the match inside 20 seconds of the second half.
Rakib Khan’s long pass from the centre line found Sajib at the edge of the box and Aminur dodged past two defenders to beat Arambagh goalkeeper Abul Kashem Milon.
Arambagh had a chance to reduce the margin of defeat in the 78th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Sajib fouled Sadick Admas inside the box.
But Nigerian forward Christopher Chizoba’s kick went over the cross bar.
