Federation Cup runners-up Saif Sporting Club were held to a 1-1 draw by Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society in their first match of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
Nigerian midfielder John Okoli gave Saif the lead in the 18th minute before Rahmatganj’s Ivory Coast forward Lorougnon Crist Remi scored the equaliser in the 40th minute.
Remi missed a penalty in the 57th minute as his attempt was denied by Saif keeper Pappu Hosain.
Referee Anisur Rahman awarded the penalty to Rahmatganj after Saif captain Riyadul Hasan Rafi brought down Remi inside the box.
Saif dominated the game with 22 shots on-target against Rahmatganj MFS’s seven.
