Russel make winning start

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra made a winning start in the Bangladesh Premier League as they beat Brothers Union 2-1 in their first match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.

Local forward Md Abdullah and Brazilian forward Giancarlo Lopes scored once goal apiece for the winners while Brothers Congolese forward and captain Siyo Zunapio reduced the gap converting a penalty.

Abdullah gave Russel the lead in the 13th minute with a free-kick before Lopes made it 2-0 three minutes later following a long throw-in by Kyrgyzstani midfielder Baktyir Duishobekov.

Siyo Zunapio reduced the gap in the 32nd minute converting a penalty.  

Russel midfielder Didarul Haque committed a handball inside the box and the referee Bitu Raj Barua had no hesitation to award a penalty in favour of Brothers.
