The High Court issued a ruling on Thursday asking authorities concerned to explain reasons why the court should not pass an order to record fingerprints and iris scans of infants during their birth registration.
A High Court division bench of JBM Hassan and Khairul Alam passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
The court ordered officials including LGRD secretary, Public Security Division secretary and Inspector General of Police to reply to the ruling within next four weeks.
Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan filed the writ petition and moved the matter before the court himself, while deputy attorney general Tushar Kanti Roy stood for the state.
