Govt to Procure 50,000 Tonnes of Wheat

Import of 30,000 tonnes diesel from India okayed

The government will procure 50,000 tonnes of wheat from a Singaporean company, Agrocorp International Pte, at a cost of Tk 138.61 crore.

A meeting of the cabinet committee on national purchases, chaired by finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, on Wednesday approved a proposal of the Directorate General of Food under the food ministry in this regard.

The price of a tonne of wheat is quoted at $326.92, said cabinet division additional secretary Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal.    

He said that the committee also approved four other proposals, including import of 30,000 tonnes of diesel from Numaligarh Refinery Limited in India.

The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation submitted the proposal to purchase the fuel oil at Tk 107.72 crore from the NRL under a government-to-government deal. 

Appointment of the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited, Gazipur has been approved for public works in three project sites in Rangpur, Bogura and Gopalganj under a Tk 154.61 crore Palli Janapad project of the Rural Development Academy, Bogura.

The committee also approved a price variation proposal of the Statistics and Informatics Division against its consultancy services from the joint venture of Xeron India Ltd, IOE of Bangladesh and TOP Image System of Germany under the revised ‘National Household Database Project’ with an additional amount of Tk 13.03 crore.

A joint venture of the Civil Engineers Limited, National Development Engineers Limited and Banga Builders Limited was given approval for construction of a 20-storey office building at Tk 193.77 crore at Bangladesh Secretariat under the Department of Public Works.

Earlier, a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs, also chaired by AHM Mustafa Kamal, agreed in principle for exemption of section 68(1) of the Public Procurement Act 2006 and section 76(2) of the Public Procurement Rule 2008 for establishing the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Centennial School in Athens in Greece under the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment.
