The online lottery results for admitting to the classes ranging from Class I to IX at 683 government high schools was published on Monday.
The admission result against the vacant 77,140 seats is available on website gsa.teletalk.com.bd. A separate waiting list of 77,140 candidates was also published on the website.
The results will also be available on the notice boards of respective schools, said Syed Md Golam Faruk, director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
Education minister Dipu Moni virtually inaugurated the lottery at a programme held at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on Monday.
Nadia Anhu Tanha, a Class VI student of Azimpur Government Girls High School, picked the set of students’ lists out of three sets prepared by Teletalk for random lottery.
A total of 5,74,929 application forms were sold between December 15 to January 7 for admissions to the government high schools.
‘We decided to admit students through online lottery considering the health risk of the students amid the COVID-19 outbreak,’ Dipu Moni said, adding that non-government schools were also taking admissions through lottery.
Education secretary Mahbub Hossain said that the government was planning to hold admissions to the public universities in clusters to ease sufferings of the admission seekers.
The educational institutions remained closed from March 17 amid the COVID-19 outbreak and the institutions were taking online classes and examinations.
The government also cancelled Higher Secondary Certificate examinations, Junior School Certificate examinations and Primary Education Certificate examinations amid the outbreak.
