Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree, a left-leaning students’ organisation, on Sunday organised a human chain protest in front of the National Museum demanding the reopening of all public universities’ halls before their examinations.

The leaders of the organisation called upon all the public university authorities to open the halls of the universities on a limited scale with maintaining hygiene rules before taking examinations. They also demanded taking review classes of the courses for the students who could not join online classes.

Leader and activists attended the programme led by Moitree president Kazi Abdul Motaleb Jewel where former president of Rajshahi University unit Sadaqat Hossain Khan Babul was chief guest.

Besides, Rashedul Islam Khan, vice-president of the central committee, Sirajul Islam Khan Shishir, assistant general secretary, and Jasod-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League president Gautam Shil, among others, were present at the human chain programme conducted by general secretary Atulan Das Alo.

Speaking as the chief guest, Sadaqat Hossain Khan Babul praised that some universities recently had decided to take semester final examinations. But that initiative will go in vain if the initiative is taken without considering the disadvantages of the students and the issue of health protection, he cautioned.

In the current epidemic situation, such decisions of the universities are extremely reckless and lopsided. The university administration should comply with the demands of the students before taking the final examinations.’ he added.

‘Most the students had to stay at home in remote areas of the country due to the closure of the university during the pandemic period. Most of them could not have access to online classes for lack of technological support. That’s why the review classes have to be taken for those students while it is necessary to ensure university buses for non-resident students.’ said Kazi Abdul Motaleb Jewel, president of the organisation.

Maitree’s central organising secretary Aditi Srishti, publicity and publication secretary Tanveen Ahmed, literary, cultural and sports secretary Sumaiya Parveen Jahra, central member Fahim Muntasir, among others, were present in the human chain.
