A youth arrested in connection with raping and killing a teenage school girl in the capital gave his confessional statement before a Dhaka court on Friday afternoon.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mamunur Rashid then sent Maple Leaf International School student Fardin Iftekhar Dihan, the lone accused in the case for the killing of the O-level student after rape, to jail after recording his statement.

Police recovered the body of the 17-year-old girl from Anwar Khan Modern Hospital on Thursday afternoon and detained Fardin and three more youths.

The victim’s father filed a case with Kalabagan police station on Friday against Dihan and he was later produced before the Dhaka court, said police sub-inspector Shwapan Kumar, general recording officer at Kalabagan police station.

The three youths were in police custody for interrogation.

Meanwhile, physician  who conducted the post-mortem examination of the girl said that she was victim of rape and ‘sexual perversion’.

The victim’s post-mortem examination was completed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The hospital’s forensic department chairman Sohel Mahmud said that the teenage girl died of excessive bleeding from vagina and rectum.

He said that DNA profiling will be done to determine whether she was raped by more than one.

The case statement said that the girl went out Thursday morning, telling her mother that she was going to a friend’s home to bring some study materials from a coaching centre.

After 1:00pm, a youth called the mother over cell phone introducing himself as Dihan and told her that the daughter suddenly fell sick in his home and that he was taking her to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital.

The mother saw the body after arriving at the hospital.

Duty doctors at the hospital informed the mother that her daughter was raped, the case statement read.

The girl’s relatives claimed that she was picked up by her friend Dihan and was taken to the rooftop of his house, where she was raped.

He alleged that she died from bleeding profusely after rape.

‘Fardin took the girl to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital after she fell sick,’ he said.

Police said that they were informed about it after Fardin rushed the girl to the hospital.

Three more friends of Fardin also went to the hospital and police detained all four of them.

The family suspected that she was sedated and raped before murder.

Police said that they were investigating the roles of the three detained youths and would take actions accordingly.

According to the case filed by the family, the victim was 17-year-old as the passport produced in support of the claim mentioned October 2003 as her birth date.

Police inquest, however, puts her age at 19.

Asked about the issue, DMCH physician Sohel said that they would carry out radiology and other relevant tests to determine the victim’s age.

A court source said that determining the age of the victim would be very significant since that might change the case’s direction.

The victim family said that Fardin was alone in his house and he used the opportunity to rape and kill the teenage girl.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police New Market zone assistant commission Abul Hasan said that Dihan’s father is a retired district registrar and now lives in Rajshahi.

The flat is owned by the family and Fardin lives there with his mother and brother.

The mother went to Bogura on Thursday morning to visit a relative and his brother went to his office in Narayanganj leaving Fardin alone, police said.

Earlier in the morning, DMP Ramna division deputy commissioner Sajjadur Rahman said that they were investigating the incident to confirm whether it was a rape incident.

Details can only be confirmed after the post-mortem and other medical examinations, the police officer said.

Sajjadur requested all not to post and publish exaggerated information on social media about the death incident.

The Bangladesh Chhatra Union of Jahangirnagar University unit on Friday condemned the alleged torture and death of the O-level student in Dhaka.

In a press release signed by publication and publicity secretary of the organisation Imtiaz Mahi, the student organisation demanded proper investigation into the murder incident.
