COVID-19 deaths top 30 after 8 days in Banglades

The number of daily deaths from COVID-19 went above 30 on Thursday after eight days.

In the past 24-hour period ending at 8:00am Thursday, 31 people died of the disease, including two at home.

With the deaths, the COVID-19 death toll has reached 7,718, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

In the 24 hours, 1,007 people tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total number of cases to 5,19,905.

The test positivity rate in the period was 6.55 per cent as 15,381 samples were tested across the country.

The daily positivity rate remained below 7 per cent  in the last three consecutive days.

The overall positivity rate now stands at 15.67 per cent and the fatality rate at 1.48 per cent.

The weekly fatality rate has recently marked increases.

The number of deaths at home also went up in recent days.

Since mid-May at least 741 COVID-19 patients have died outside hospitals, including 707 at home and 34 on the way to hospitals.

According to health agency figures, 18 of the new deceased were in Dhaka division, six in Chattogram, two each in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Mymensingh while one was in Barishal division.

Among the deceased, 20 were aged above 60 years, five between 51and 60 years, two between 41and 50 years, another two between 31and 40 years while one was between 21and 30 years with another between 11and 20 years.

So far, 4,64,446 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the country, with 47,741 active cases on Thursday.
