VAT intelligence of the National Board of Revenue conducted a drive at the Gulshan office of an online business platform and kept another 16 platforms under scanner for alleged evasion of value-added tax.
A team of VAT Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate of the NBR on Sunday conducted the office of Araz and found that the platform sold foreign products online without a business identification number or VAT registration number.
The directorate seized commercial documents of Araz and sought its bank account information, said a VATAIID release on Monday.
The team led by VATAIID deputy director Nazmunnahar Kaisar found that Araz Trading, owned by Sazzad Ali Shairf, located in Gulshan-1 ran its business from a residential flat and evaded VAT.
They also found that another 16 online platforms had been running businesses without BINs and VAT intelligence team would also take actions against those firms after gathering the required information.
The platform sold products brought in baggage and parcels from abroad, mainly from Pakistan.
The team will also examine whether the firm had paid customs duty for the products.
