The body of Lakingme Chakma has been lying in the morgue of Cox’s Bazar sadar hospital for 13 days until Tuesday over the row of whether her parents or husband should receive the body.
‘Either a court order or a negotiation between families can bring the impasse to an end,’ said Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station’s sub inspector Abdul Halim.
Lakingme’s family complained that she was abducted on January 5 from her Shilkhali Chakmapara home at Baharchhara in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
They said that Lakingme was forced to convert and marry her abductor and had been missing until the police informed them about her death.
On December 10, the police filed an unnatural death case after Lakingme had been brought dead to the Cox’s Bazar police station by her husband.
SI Halim is investigating the case.
Lakingme’s parents and husband claimed the body, leading to the problem of who should receive it.
The issue was brought to the court, which has instructed the Rapid Action Battalion to investigate the matter and report to it.
