The directorate of secondary and higher education on Wednesday sought permission from the education ministry to start admission test process of the government schools in Dhaka from December 15.
DSHE director general Syed Golam Faruk told New Age that they have made the proposal aiming to hold a lottery centrally on December 30.
He said that the schools would be asked to start the admission test procedure after it got permission from the ministry.
The schedule of the non-government schools in Dhaka and the educational institutions in other districts would be announced soon, he said.
DSHE officials said that an estimated 11,000 seats remained vacant at the 41 government schools in Dhaka from Class 1 to Class IX.
A student will be able to select a maximum of five schools from a cluster, they said.
Education minister Dipu Moni on November 25 ordered all the educational institutions to hold admission through lottery amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
