Leaders of Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal-Jasad on Wednesday called on the Awami League government to take stern actions against the anti-sculpture groups opposing creation and exhibition of sculptures in the country.

Dhaka City unit of Jasad, a partner of Awami Leagueled ruling alliance, formed a human chain in front of the party’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in Gulistan to press its demand.

Party president Hasanul Haq Inu said that the groups were trying to create anarchy in the country in the name of opposing government’s proposed construction of a sculpture of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He called on the government to take immediate steps to stop the activities of the groups. Jasad general secretary Shirin Akhter said that the groups did not own this state, its parliament.

Jasad will hold countrywide demonstrations on December 5 demanding a ban on religionbased politics, Shirin said.

Chaired by Dhaka city coordinator Mir Hossain Akhter, central leaders Safi Uddin Mollah, Shawkat Raihan, Saifuzzaman Badsha and others spoke at the rally.

Meanwhile in Chattogram, different socio-cultural, political and professional organisations on Wednesday urged people from all walks of life to resist the people who were opposing the installation of a sculpture of Sheikh Mujib.

Freedom fighters and cultural, political, and social activists joined the protest in the port city demanding a ban on extremist and sectarian politics of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam.

Peshajibi Samanway Parishad Chattogram and Sammilita Sangskritik Squad jointly organised the programme in front of Chattogram Press Club at about 2:00pm.
