Commerce minister Tipu Munshi on Thursday said that bankers should increase the disbursement of credit to small and medium entrepreneurs under stimuli for the sake of the country’s recovery from the economic fallout amid lingering COVID-19 pandemic.
He expressed disappointment with the disbursement to SMEs while addressing a dialogue in the capital on stimulus packages for sustainable and inclusive recovery from COVID-19 fallout in Bangladesh.
Munshi said the government should consider demands of the readymade garments exporters with the looming second wave of the pandemic.
Finance division arranged the seminar to review the stimuli over Tk 1 lakh crore announced in phases since April.
The seminar was attended, among others, by principal secretary to prime minister Ahmed Kaikuas, World Bank country director Mercy Miyang Tembon and Japanese ambassador in Bangladesh Ito Naoki.
