The convenor of cabinet committee formed to finalise the capital’s Detailed Area Plan, M Tajul Islam, said that the DAP would be finalised after holding a series of meetings with experts.
He also said that experts were asked to submit written proposals which would be preserved in a database.
After holding a meeting with the representatives of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh at his office, Tajul, also local government and rural division minister, told the press that new roads would be developed in the capital proportionate to the existing buildings and population density.
Canals inside the capital and rivers around it would be renovated and beautified with the aim of converting them to tourist destinations.
‘We are taking two such canal renovation projects as part of expansions of the Hatijheel towards Gulshan and Banani,’ Tajul said.
He said that he would hold similar meetings with elected representatives and representatives of the Institute of Planners as well as structural engineers soon.
‘We must give value to the opinions of different stakeholders and take their help for developing and executing an ideal plan for the capital,’ Tajul said. Rajdhani Unnyayan Kartripakkhya also should be strengthened for developing and executing DAP.
LGRD ministry additional secretary Deepak Chakrabarty, Rajuk chairman Syeed Nur Alam, IAB former president Abu Sayeed, vice-president Ehsan Khan, architect Iqbal Habib, among others, were present at the meeting.
In 2016, Rajuk started formulating the draft of the Detailed Area Plan for developing 1,528 square kilometres of area under its jurisdiction by 2035.
