The condition of Yasmin Akhter who was set on fire by her husband at Rangunia in Chattogram over dowry is still unstable, said a physician at Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka on Sunday.

‘We received her with 25 per cent burns Saturday evening and her condition is still not stable,’ the institute’s resident medical officer Partha Shankar Paul told New Age Sunday evening.

He said that she suffered burn injuries from her waist to feet.

Yasmin, in her thirties and a mother of a 4-year-old son, was tortured and burnt by her husband Md Rasel, 35, during an argument over dowry Thursday night.

She was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital by her parents Friday morning.

She was referred to the burn institute Saturday morning.

Yasmin, daughter of Harunur Rashid of Kadamtali at Rangunia, was married off to Rasel, union Swechchhasebak League general secretary and son of Shafiqul Islam of Swandwippara of the upazila, eight years ago.

Harunur said that he had filed a case against Rasel and he was arrested Friday evening.

He demanded the highest punishment for Rasel.
