National Technical Advisory Committee on COVID-19 urged the government to complete the preparation for the distribution, preservation and administration of COVID-19 vaccines at the earliest.

The committee in a release on Sunday welcomed the government move to procure the vaccines and for the agreement with Serum Institute of India and Beximco to bring 3 crore COVID-19 vaccines.

The 22nd meeting of the committee was held online on Friday, according to the release signed by the committee president Mohammad Shahidullah.

The committee said that the government initiative to provide the vaccine to people and to formulate National Vaccine Deployment Plan was appropriate and sound.

It advised the government to analyse the viability of providing the vaccine to students.

The committee further said that it was needed to ensure admission and treatment of COVID-19 patients at the government hospitals with ensuring oxygen supply and high-flow cannula.

The committee said that many hospitals were not following the COVID-19 treatment guideline and providing antibiotic rampantly, which created a threat to developing antimicrobial resistance and bring about a disaster for the treatment of COVID-19.

It also advised the government to continue awareness campaign to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
