Driver killed as train hits truck

A truck driver was killed and his assistant injured as the Khulna-bound intercity Kobadakh Express hit the coal-laden truck on the Murali level crossing under the Kotwali police station Saturday evening.

The accident disrupted the train communication on the Khulna-Jashore route.

The deceased was identified as Akbar Ali, 50, of Chapainawabganj.

Shahidul Islam, senor station officer of Jashore Fire Service, told New Age that the accident took place when a coal-laden truck, which was heading towards Jashore Central Bus Terminal, was hit by the train leaving truck driver dead on the spot and wounding his assistant.

The wounded was rushed to Jashore General Hospital in a critical condition.

Ainal Haque, station master, Jashore  Railway Station told New Age that train communication to and from Khulna remained suspended till filing of the report at 10:00pm.
