Another suspect held over Lalmonirhat lynching

The detective investigators on Friday said that they arrested another suspect on Thursday night in connection with the killing and torching of a man in Lalmonirhat on October 29 over rumour of disrespecting Quran.

The suspect, Russell Islam Raj alias Bishu, 22, is a resident of Jummapara area of Burimari union in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Lalmonirhat district detective branch in-charge Omar Faruq said they arrested Russell from the Patgram College area at about 11:00pm on Thursday after finding evidence of his involvement in the incident.

Russell was sent to jail after he was produced in the court on Friday.

On October 29, a former college librarian, Abu Yunus Md Shahid-un-Nabi Jewel, was beaten, killed and burnt at Burimari in Patgram upazila by a group of people who accused him of dishonouring the Quran in a local mosque.

So far 35 people have been arrested in three separate cases in this connection.
