Around 200 cricketers, support staff and officials, who will be involved in the forthcoming Bangabandhu Twenty20 Cup, have provided their samples for COVID-19 test on Friday.

The test results are expected to start coming out from 11:00pm that night and the ones who clear the test will enter the bio-bubble in their team hotel today.

Bangladesh Cricket Board arranged the test to ensure the health and safety of all members who will play a part in this five-team Twenty20 tournament, scheduled to begin on November 24.

All of the national stalwarts like Shakib Al Hasan, who will make his comeback to cricket with this tournament, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, who recovered from COVID on Tuesday, gave their samples.

Tamim Iqbal, who recently returned to Bangladesh after his stint with the Lahore Qalanders in the Pakistan Super League, didn’t come to Mirpur instead his sample was taken from his residence in the capital.

Gazi Group Chattogram received a boost just before the start of the tournament, as their batsman and Bangladesh’s Test skipper Mominul Haque recovered from the virus infection on Thursday.

Mominul got the result on Thursday night and returned to the nets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium the very next day.

Mominul and his wife Fariha Bashar had tested positive for the virus on November 10.

The league-phase of the tournament will begin with the match between Beximco Dhaka and Minister Group Rajshahi followed by the clash between Fortune Barishal and Gemcon Khulna.

Both Barishal and Khulna will begin their team training today at the BCB Academy ground.
