Police recovered the body of a woman from a room of hotel ‘Basundhara’ near the Rangpur railway station on Friday noon.

Police and hotel employees said that a couple, Saiful Islam, 40, and Arzina Khatun, 30, residents of Birol upazilla in Dinajpur, introducing them as husband and wife rented the hotel room on Thursday evening.

Later, Saiful went away locking the door in the morning. As he did not return until noon, the hotel authorities knocked the door but got no response from inside and informed the police of the matter.

On information, police reached the spot and recovered the body, said Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Abdur Rashid.

He said that they suspected that the woman was strangled to death and that they started verifying their address and the relation.

He said that they sent the body to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for post mortem examinations.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police deputy police commissioner (crime) Abu Maruf Hossain said that they detained two employees of the hotel – hotel manager Mohammad Ali and Sha Alam — for interrogation.
