Environmentalists and experts in a webinar demanded ensuring adequate water bodies and greenery in the proposed Detailed Area Plan of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha.

Organised by the Institute of Planners on Monday, the webinar also demanded taking specific measures in the DAP for reducing density of people and to give specific guidelines on the traffic system.

More importantly, they said, the guidelines of the DAP 2015-2035 must be implemented, whereas the DAP for the year 1995-2015 could not be implemented due to government’s compromise with the businesses and powerful individuals.

‘Rajuk should be restructured for ensuring execution of the guidelines of the DAP in the greater public interest. But, unfortunately we saw the organisation modified the DAP and did not execute it properly,’ said Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association executive director Syeda Rizwana Hassan.

Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan general secretary Sharif Jamil said that the upcoming DAP must have specific action plans for protecting and reclaiming the lost water bodies of the capital.

Dhaka WASA managing director Taqsem A Khan suggested developing the DAP in accordance with WASA’s water supply master plan for avoiding any possible public sufferings in future.

Dhaka north city mayor Atiqul Islam criticised the outgoing DAP for not keeping all required facilities and expected the upcoming DAP would address all the required civic facilities.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology professor Shamsul Haque suggested preparing the DAP synchronising the land use and transportation sector for making Dhaka livable.
