The Dhaka University Teachers’ Association on Friday condemned and expressed concern over what it said the current online propaganda against the university’s criminology department professor Md Ziaur Rahman.
The association, in a press release signed by its general secretary Md Nizamul Huq Bhuiyan, said that a quarter edited the remarks Zia made in a talk-show on private television channel DBC about one and a half years ago and a section was presenting it in a partial and perverse manner to create political tension.
The DUTA urged all concerned to refrain from being involved in such false propaganda against the teachers’ community.
In the release, they said that they were observing that the section was demonstrating perverse tastes by spreading propaganda online.
By observing these activities the DUTA executive committee unanimously decided that misuse of a university teacher’s academic political analysis could not be expected, the release read.
The association expresses concern over such mean activities and condemns these seriously, the release added.
The DUTA decision came five days after the cyber tribunal on October 25 asked the police to investigate the accusation that Ziaur hurt the religious sentiment of Muslims by making comments in a television talk show aired on October 20.
