DU cuts dev fee, reduces holidays

The Dhaka University authroities on Thursday decided to cut development fee of the students by 50 per cent and reduce holidays to make up for the academic losses due to the ongoing closure of the institution during the coronavirus outbreak.

The decisions came in a meeting of the syndicate chaired by vice-chancellor of the university Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building.

The winter vacation would be reduced to seven days from 17 days and the summer vacation to 20 days from 40 days in the academic year 2020-21, said the DU syndicate member Mohammad Humayun Kabir.

Considering the situation arising out of COVID-19, the development fee of 2019-20 session for the students has been waived by 50 per cent, he added.

All educational institutions have remained closed since March 17 during the COVID-19  outbreak.
