The High Court-appointed probe committee on the sexual assault on a housewife at Begumganj in Noakhali submitted its probe report on Thursday, stating that the victim and her father did not dare to disclose the incident to anybody as the perpetrators had threatened to kill them.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim in a ruling issued on October 5 asked the principal of Chowmuhani Govt SA College, Noakhali, the additional deputy commissioner of Noakhali and the district social services officer to conduct the probe within 15-day.
The court issued the directive after a video of sexual assault and torture on the victim at her father’s house after stripping her of clothes on the evening of September 2 began to circulate on social media in early October and various newspapers published reports on the incident.
On Thursday, the court heard the probe report and adjourned the hearing until November 29.
The probe body, led by Chowmuhani Govt SA College’s principal Md Abul Bashar, recommended the court for taking action against Iklaspur union’s panel chairman Firoz Alam Bhuiyan, local member Moazzem Hossain Sohel, Begumganj circle’s assistant superintendent of police Shahjahan Sheikh, Begumganj police station officer-in-charge Harun-or Rashid, sub-inspector Hafizur Rahman and assistant superintendent of police Mofizul Islam finding their negligence in duties.
The probe committee also recommended action against the victim’s husband and his brother stating that the siblings were cohorts of Begumganj-based criminal gang, led by Delwar Hossain.
