Authorities of Ajax Jute Mills Limited on Wednesday demanded eviction of illegal occupiers from the former state-owned mill premises immediately.

Mohammad Kawsar Zaman Babla, chairman and chief executive of the currently private-run mill, said that a local influential group had occupied some space of the mill to use for their business purposes.

Such illegal occupation is hampering facilities of more than 300 workers, employees and officials of the mills, Babla said at a press conference at the National Press Club.

‘We have informed home ministry, deputy commissioner and the local authorities of the occupation, but got no solution so far,’ Babla said.

Moreover, the vested group had rented some of their occupied land to other parties in February in 2020, Babla said.

He called on the local authorities and law enforcers to take immediate steps to protect the jute mill land. The mill is situated on 81 acres land at Mirerdanga of Daulatpur in Khulna and the then state-owned mill was closed in 2015.
