Assistant sub-inspector of the Detective Branch of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Rayhanul Islam Raju was arrested in a case filed allegedly for raping a girl in Haragach area of Rangpur city and an apparel worker has allegedly been raped at Savar near Dhaka city.
Victim’s father Aynal Haque filed the rape case against three including Raju with the Haragach police station on Sunday night, New Age correspondent in Rangpur reported.
Police rescued the girl and admitted her to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Police arrested two women Sumaiya Pervin Meghla and Shurovi Akhter beside Raju in this connection, the officer in charge of Haragach police station Rejaul Karim confirmed.
Family members and local people said Rayhanul developed a relationship with the victim, who is a class IX student at Maynakuti-Kochutaria under Haragach police station of the metropolitan area.
Raju called the girl on Sunday morning at a rented house of Sumaiya Pervin Meghla in Kadarerpul area of the Haragach municipality. Though it began as a ‘date’ at first, Rayhanul, along with some his associates, later raped the girl, according to police.
After the incident, the girl went out into the street and informed the petrol police who took her to the police station at night. The family members were informed of the incident immediately.
Police later admitted the girl to Rangpur Medical College Hospital one-stop crisis centre at about 12.30am.
The victim’s mother said that the police personnel Rayhanul Islam Raju used to meet my daughter and make calls often on her cell-phone.
Rangpur metropolitan deputy police commissioner (crime) Abu Maruf Hossain said that there was an ongoing relationship between the police officer and the girl. They were on a ‘date’ at the house on Sunday and the girl returned home after the meeting.
Upon her return, her mother was infuriated over the delay and the girl, out of frustration, went back to Meghla’s house where she was raped by ASI Raju and two other fellows with the help of Meghla and Shurovi, according to Abu Maruf Hossain.
Police held Rayhanul Islam Raju on Monday morning and interrogated him, Maruf Hossain added.
ASI Rayhanul Islam Raju was suspended and the case was transferred to PBI for further investigation, he said.
A garment worker was allegedly raped by an unidentified man in Dakhshinpara area of Savar on Sunday night, United News of Bangladesh reported.
The victim filed a complaint with Savar model police station at night.
AFM Sayed, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that an unidentified man forcibly took the victim to an abandoned place while she was on her way back to home.
Later, he raped the garment worker there.
On information, the police visited the spot and they are yet make any arrest.
The worker was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital one-stop crisis centre.
