Police on Saturday started interrogating five persons after a retired college teacher was found murdered in his house in south-western Narail district on Friday.
The victim, Arun Roy, 72, retired 11 years ago, is husband of Niva Pathak who is serving at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in Khulna as deputy director.
The police officials said the incident took place between Thursday night and Friday evening at his two storey-building located at Byanahati village of the district headquarters where he lived alone as his wife, his engineer son and doctor daughter live at their workplaces.
The police officials said in the evening of Friday, his wife Niva and son Indrajit Roy reached the house to celebrate Durga Puja and knocked the door but got no response.
His son, after getting into the house climbing a ladder, discovered Arun Roy dead.
The police investigators said they have a number of clues over the killing but none of them were conclusive.
‘We are interrogating five persons including two of his former caretakers and one rickshaw-van puller,’ said Narail district police superintendent Jashim Uddin.
Jashim said the miscreants beat the victim before slitting his throat, leaving him in a pool of blood.
He said the victim had dispute with his brother over ancestral property and another piece of land nearby local temple.
