Bangladesh Nationalist Party candidate SM Jahangir Hossain and Awami League candidate Habib Hasan started their election campaign in parliamentary by-election to Dhaka-18 constituency on Friday.
Jahangir Hossain took allocation of his party symbol of ‘sheaf of paddy’ from the Election Commission in the morning.
He then said his jumma prayers at the Central Jame Mosque at Sector1 of Uttara and began formal election campaign after the prayer.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman, BNP central leaders Abdus Salam, Habibur Rahman, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, Shama Obaid, Aminul Haque, Nazim Uddin Alam and others were present during the launch of the campaign.
Habib Hasan took his party symbol ‘boat’ from the Election Commission and started campaigns holding an exchange of views with local people at Uttar Khan area at 2:00pm.
The by-election to Dhaka-18 will be held on November 12, according to the timetable announced by the Election Commission.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Awami League member of the parliament Sahara Khatun.
