The dissident leaders of Gono Forum on Wednesday warned that the party president Dr Kamal Hossain would be ‘expelled’ if he did not refrain from taking ‘anti-party steps violating the party constitution’.

The warning was issued by the leaders at a press conference at the National Press Club.

Subrata Chowdhury, former executive president of Gono Forum, said that a vested quarter was taking different steps violating the party constitution with the consent of its president Kamal Hossain.

‘We will be compelled to expel the party president, if needed, for violating the party constitution before our national conference scheduled for December 26,’ Subrata said.

According to the party constitution, if the party president or others violate the party constitution, the central committee with the consent of two thirds of members could expel the president or others, Subrata said.

Dissident leaders Abu Sayeed, Mostafa Mohsin Montu, Jaglul Haider, Khan Siddiqur Rahman, Latiful Bari Hamim, among others, also attended the press conference.

The dissident leaders, led by Abu Syeed, Mostafa Mohsin Montu and Subrata Chowdhury, at an extended meeting on September 26 took the decision to hold the party’s 6th national conference on December 26.

Kamal Hossain and Gono Forum general secretary Reza Kibria expelled the dissident leaders, saying that their activities were illegal.

A meeting, chaired by Kamal Hossain, took a decision to hold the party’s national conference on December 12, before the dissidents’ scheduled meeting.

The party, formed in 1993 under the leadership of Kamal Hossain, is on the verge of facing a split.
