Bangladesh Medical Association and Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) in a joint statement on Tuesday protested at the recent deputation of Administrative Service cadre officers to health service providing agencies.
The statement said that such posting of administrative cadre officers in top positions of health service providing agencies was humiliating for the health professionals and would widen the inter-service gap.
Signed by BMA president Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, its member secretary Ehteshamul Haque Chowdhury, Swachip president Iqbal Arslan and its general secretary MA Aziz, the statement warned that they would organise programmes against such deputation policy as they did before.
The health ministry has recently deputed administrative cadre officers to the Central Medical Stores Department, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and Directorate General of Health Services ignoring capable health service officers, Mosatfa Jalal Mohiuddin said.
Iqbal Arslan said that appointing administrative cadre officials to health service providing agencies was unacceptable and condemnable.
‘The administrative cadre officials are trying to dominate all other services,’ he added.
Health secretary Md Abdul Mannan, however, said that there existed no such intention that administrative cadre officials would control the health service through deputation.
‘Unfortunately, a kind of misunderstanding is developing,’ he said, adding that only a few administrative service cadre officers were deputed to some agencies to help in their administrative work.
The government has recently given promotion to many doctors, he pointed out.
