The government has suspended the operation of a madrassah at Muradnagar in Cumilla after the madrassah authorities failed to take action against a teacher, who uploaded an Islamic song sung with the tune of the national anthem on social media.
Muradnagar Upazila Nirbahi officer Abhishek Das said that he ordered the suspension of the operation of the madrassah on Sunday as its authorities did not take any action against its teacher Muhtamim Nazibullah Afsari for the offence.
‘Distorting the national anthem is an offence. Afsari intentionally committed the offence by recording and distributing an Islamic song with the tune of the national anthem on social media. But the madrassah authorities did not take any action against the teacher,’ Abhishek said.
He also said that the police were looking for Afsari Monday.
No case, however, was filed against him till filing this report.
Afsari and the madrassah authorities could not be reached for comments.
