Faridpur-4 lawmaker Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, widely known as Nixon Chowdhury, on Sunday filed a petition with the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in an electoral rules violation case.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice K M Zahid Sarwar will hear the bail petition on Tuesday, Mujibur’s lawyer Shahdeen Malik told New Age.
Faridpur district senior election officer Nawabul Islam on October 15 filed the case with Charbhadrasan police station against Mujibur Rahman.
The EC in the case alleged that the independent lawmaker verbally abused and threatened deputy commissioner, upazila nirbahi officer and a number of executive magistrates and held protest meeting immediately after the Charbhadrasan upazila by-election held on October 10.
Earlier, the Cabinet Division sought actions against Mujibur Rahman and the newly-elected Charbhadrasan upazila chairman Md Kawsar for violating the electoral code of conduct.
Bangladesh Administrative Service Association also condemned the lawmaker and demanded action against him for misbehaving with district administration officers.
