Boatman killed, 7 arrested

Police arrested seven people on Friday night from different parts of Chattogram allegedly for killing Abu Taib, a boatman of Fishery Ghat area of Bakalia in Chattogram.

At around 8:50pm on Friday night, Taib, son of Ahmed Mia of Masterhat area of Shikalbaha of Karnaphuli upazila was killed.

In a press briefing on Saturday, Chattogram Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner (south) SM Mehedi Hasan said that police arrested seven people from different parts of Chattogram in separate drives after three hours of the killing.

The arrested are Akter Hossain alias Kosai Akter, Md Saifuddin, Md Raihan Uddin alais Rana, Ashraful Islam, Md Sobuj, Md Abu Taher Alias Kalu and Hasina.

Deputy commissioner Mehedi said that the arrested admitted that they stabbed Taib to death on Friday and tried to establish this killing as mob beating.

Mehedi said that they killed Taib to take the revenge of previous enmity. The mastermind of the killing was Akter.

CMP additional deputy commissioner (south) Palash Kanti Nath, assistant commissioner (Chawkbazar Zone) Muhammad Raisul Islam, Bakalia police officer-in-charge Md Nezam Uddin were also present in the press conference.
