Man hacked to death

An Awami League activist was hacked to death and another was injured by unidentified miscreants in Atgharia upazila of Pabna on Saturday evening.

The deceased, Maqbul Hossain, 45, a local Awami League activist, was son of Raiz Uddin Master of Jatrapur village in the upazila.

The injured, Alam, son of Chand Mollah of the same village, was admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

Abdul Matin, a cousin of the deceased, said the attack occurred when the duo were returning home by their motorbikes from Dhanuaghata market at about 7:00pm.

The miscreants stopped their vehicle at gunpoint on the bank of Chandai beel in the area and hacked them indiscriminately.

Maqbul died on the spot and Alam was rushed to Pabna Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

The hospital’s emergency department said his condition was critical.

Atgharia Police Station OC (Investigation) Abdul Malek confirmed the incident.

Laxmikunda union council chairman Anwar Hossain confirmed the political affiliation of the victim.
