Sheikh Russel Online International Air Rifle Championship 2020 begins today which will provide opportunity for Bangladeshi shooters to participate in a competitive tournament after a long break caused by the global coronavirus outbreak.
A total of 14 shooters from seven countries – hosts Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, India, Japan, Pakistan and South Korea – will compete in the two-day long tournament.
Abdullah Hel Baki and Sayeda Atkia Hasan Disha will represent Bangladesh while one male and one female shooter will represent each of the other six nations in the men’s and women’s 10-metre air rifle event.
Bangladesh Sports Shooting Federation is organising the competition to mark the 57th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
State minister for youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell inaugurated the event as the chief guest on virtual platform on Saturday, a day before the start of the meet.
BSSF president Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan, BSSF general secretary Intekhabul Hamid and participating countries organisers attended the inauguration ceremony among others.
