Bangladesh recorded 15 more COVID-19 deaths and 1,600 more new coronavirus cases in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am Thursday.
With the numbers, the country’s COVID-19 death toll reached 5,608 and the number of cases rose to 3,84,559, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
The number of COVID-19 deaths during the previous 24 hours was 16.
The DGHS in its daily update on Thursday said that 14,104 samples were tested across the country in the past 24-hour period and 11.34 per cent of them were found positive for COVID-19.
Health minister Zahid Maleque on the day said that the country’s number of COVID-19 daily deaths decreased but the infection rate remained static in recent weeks.
The country’s COVID-19 test positivity rate is now 18.06 per cent but the rate ranged between 11 per cent and 12 per cent in the past five weeks. The fatality rate is now 1.46 per cent.
The DGHS in its update said that among the 15 new deaths, nine were in Dhaka division, four in Chattogram and one died each was in Khulna and Sylhet divisions.
Ten of the deceased were aged above 60 years, three between 51 and 60 years, and one each was between 41 and 50 years and 31 and 40 years.
So far 2,99,229 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the country, including 1,780 in the past 24 hours.
The country had 79,722 active cases on Thursday.
