COVID-19 cases rise in Chattogram

The number of COVID patients has been increasing in the port city in the month of October than the previous months.

Chattogram civil surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told New Age that the number of infected patients might increase further during winter.

He said that in October, the number of COVID-19 detection increased to 8-9 per cent of the total test. In July, August and September, the percentage of COVID-19 detection was 7-8 per cent.

As per the statistics of Chattogram Civil Surgeon office on Saturday, in the past 24 hours, 848 samples were tested of them 87 were tested COVID positive. The rate of COVID infection was 9.57 per cent.

On the other hand the rate of COVID detection was 8.82 per cent on October 1. Then it increased to 9.76 per cent in October 3 and 9.31 percent in October 6.

So far 15,513 patients recovered from COVID-19 and the recovery rate is 79.85 per cent in Chattogram.

A total 297 people died in COVID 19 in Chattogram. Among them, 204 were from the port city and 93 were from different upazilas. The death rate is 1.52 per cent.

So far, 19,514 people were detected with COVID-19 in Chattogram till Saturday. Of them 14,086 were from the port city and 5428 were from different upazilas. A total 1,13,000 samples were tested in Chattogram.

In public places like meetings, kitchen markets, shopping centres and public transport people were seen without mask and reluctant to maintain social distancing.

Janosasthyo Odhikar Rokkha Committee convener Mahfuzur Rahman said that movement and meeting of people has increased so the number of infected people also increased.

Chattogram COVID-19 Management Committee divisional coordinator ANM Minhazur Rahman said that the tendency to follow the guidelines to tackle the coronavirus is very low in the villages. The tendency is below 50 per cent in the city also.

On Friday, a total 110 patients were in the isolation centres of different government hospitals of Chattogram. 

Besides in private hospitals 79 patients, 130 COVID-19 suspected patients and 37 were in isolation centres.

At present, a total of 554 patients are in home quarantine in Chattogram district.

Due to the poor number of admitted patients, three isolation centres which were developed privately closed their operation.

At present Chattogram General Hospital, CMCH, BITID, Bangladesh Railway Hospital and Holy Crescent Hospitals are serving COVID patients.
