A Dhaka court on Sunday fixed October 27 for delivering the verdict of a case filed over the murder of blogger Oyasiqur Rahman Babu in 2015.
Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka set the date on completion of arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.
Assistant public prosecutor Mohammad Salahuddin Hawladar confirmed the matter.
The verdict in the case will be delivered against five members of banned extremist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team.
Of the accused, Zikrullah alias Hasan, Ariful Islam alias Mushfiq alias Erfan and Md Saiful Islam are now in jail while two others – Akram Hossain Hasib alias Abdullah and Junayed alias Taher – are on the run.
The court recorded the statement of 24 prosecution witnesses out of 40 in the case.
Earlier on July 20, 2016, the court framed charges against the five accused in the case.
On September 1, 2015, DB inspector Moshiur Rahman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the five accused to the court of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.
Oyasiqur, 27, was hacked to death around 9:15am on March 30, 2015, at South Begunbari area of Dhaka by three assailants on a street near the house he lived in.
