The dissident leaders of Gono Forum will form a human chain in front of the National Press Club on October 17 protesting at the repression against women and growing number of rape incidents in the country.
The decision was made at a first meeting of the faction’s council preparatory committee held at the party’s central office at Eden Bhaban where convener of the committee Mostafa Mohsin Montu chaired.
Dissident leaders Abu Sayeed, Subrata Chowdhury and Mostofa Mohasin Montu on September 26 at an extended central committee meeting at the National Press Club decided to hold the party’s 6th national conference on December 26 to form a new central committee with a view to ending the leadership crisis in the party.
The faction also formed a 201-member council preparatory committee.
Mostafa Mohsin, at a press conference after the meeting, on Saturday said that they had formed 14 subcommittees to successfully organise the next council session on December 26.
The meeting expressed concern over the violence against women and worsening flood situation.
Dissident leaders Abu Sayeed, Subrata Chowdhury, Khan Siddiqur Raman, Latiful Bari Hamim and others attended the press conference.
Meanwhile, Gono Forum led by Kamal Hossain will hold a meeting of the party’s central committee at the National Press Club on October 17.
Central leader Moataque Ahmed told New Age that the central leaders of the party from across the country would attend the party’s central committee meeting on the day.
Reza Kibria general secretary has already sent invitations to the leaders, Mostaque said.
Gono Forum was formed on August 29 in 1993 and faces split for the first time after 17 years over leadership crisis.
