The Centre for Archaeological Studies of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh celebrated the World Tourism Day 2020 on Sunday.
The day, declared by the UN World Tourism Organisation, was observed in association with Oitihya Onneswan, Sammilito Parjatan Jote, Centre for Heritage Studies and ULAB’s General Education Department.
This year the central message of the day was empowering rural communities through tourism and based on this theme CAS organised an online discussion on Archaeotorism in Bangladesh: Foster Rural Development.
Bangladesh Tourism Foundation president Mukhlesur Rahman, also convenor of Sammilito Parjatan Jote, emphasised sustainable development of the rural community through the contribution of archaeotourism.
Jahangirnagar University professor Sufi Mustafizur Rahman, also executive director of Oitihya Onneswan, suggested that the observation of Tourism Day should not be limited in the country’s urban areas.
ULAB professor Shahnaj Husne Jahan, also director of CAS, emphasised the importance of a master plan for the development of the tourism industry.
The webinar was culminated by answering to different questions asked by the participants, said a press release.
