Dhaka North City mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Monday said that it would start eviction drive against the illegal grabbers of city parks and other open spaces from October 3.

‘Grabber-free park is my commitment to the city dweller on the birth anniversary of prime minister Sheikh Hasina,’ he said.

He said that people, who believe in the ideal of country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, could not grab public property.

Indicating ruling Awami League leaders and activists, who had allegedly grabbed city’s public spaces, the mayor said that all the establishments would be demolished in drives.

Dhaka North City Corporation organised the ‘Parampara’ marking the 74th birthday anniversary of prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Justice Shahabuddin Park at Gulshan in the capital.

As chief guest, local government minister Tazul Islam asked the grabbers to leave the public property immediately.

‘Grabbers will be treated as criminal, not person, despite their other identities,’ he said.

He said that after the death of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Bangladesh lost its leadership and his daughter, prime minister Sheikh Hasina, restored the leadership.

Marking the birth anniversary of PM, DNCC declared two-day programmes, which included poetry recitation, art competition and tree plantation.
