Mentally challenged ethnic minority girl raped

No arrest in two days

There was no arrest yet, two days after the rape of a mentally challenged ethnic minority girl by unidentified miscreants and looting of her house, tying her parents up, in Khagrachari sadar upazila early Thursday.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at Khagrachari Sadar Hospital.

Police and the victim family said that nine unidentified miscreants entered their house in Adam area in Khagrachari sadar upazila, breaking the door sometimes after midnight past Wednesday.

They tied up the house owner and his wife and raped their mentally challenged girl and took away their valuables including cash money, gold jewelry and mobile phones.

The miscreants shut the mouths of all the inmates with scotch tape and went away unchallenged, despite the incident happened few yards away from the office of Khagrachari Ansar and Village Defence Party.

At Thursday dawn, locals approached the victims’ house hearing their scream and freed them.

The victim family filed a case with Khagrachari sadar police station Thursday noon, accusing nine unidentified men for raping the mentally challenged girl and looting their house.

Khagrachari sadar police inspector (investigation) Golam Absar said the girl underwent a medical examination which found rape evidence.

Khagrachari superintendent of police Abdul Aziz said they were trying to identify and arrest the miscreants, with no headway until Friday evening.

Ethnic minority leader and Khagrachari unit vice-president of National Human Rights Commission, Namita Chakma, condemned the gruesome incident.

She demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
