Chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda said that the Election Commission was not a party and it was only responsible for a smooth election process.
The commission had made all preparations to conduct the by-election of Pabna 4 constituency slated for September 26, he said on Wednesday.
He said that there was no scope of balloting at night before the polling day as the commission had taken all necessary measures in this regard.
The commission was committed to holding the elections in a free and fair manner, the CEC said at a views exchange meeting at the Pabna deputy commissioner’s office ahead of the Pabna 4, Ishwardi-Atgharia, by-election.
He said they had received no written complaints from any candidates or anyone.
Former land minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif passed away on April 2. So the election is going to be held on September 26 in that constituency.
Freedom fighter and three-time elected chairman of Ishwardi Upazila Nuruzzaman Biswas from Awami League, BNP chairperson’s adviser Habibur Rahman Habib, and Jatiya Party’s Rezaul Karim are contesting in the polls.
