The Directorate General of Medical Education on Wednesday claimed that arrested driver Abdul Malek was personally responsible for the corruption allegations raised against him.

In a press release signed by DGME director, admin, Mostafa Khaled Ahmed, it said ‘There is no involvement of DGME and its director general AHM Enayet Hossain in the allegations.’

‘Since the inception of the DGME, no purchase, appointment, posting, and promotion of any employee happened. So there is no involvement of DGME and its DG into the allegations raised against Malek,’ the press release added.

It said that the DGME was formed on November 24, 2019 by the health ministry.

The current DG Enayet was appointed on December 31, 2019 and driver Malek was attached to the DGME from the Directorate General of Health Services on deputation.

Besides, it said, there was no transport pool in DGME.

Malek, suspended on Monday after his arrest on Sunday by the Rapid Action Battalion, is the driver of Enayet.

Malek is accused of amassing illegal wealth reportedly worth about Tk 100 crore and a number of plots and flats in the capital.  He has reportedly 27 close relatives working in the health directorate.

Lobbying for promotion, and influence in procurement in medical supplies are allegedly the key sources of his income.

He served a number of top DGHS officials including a number of former DGs.
