Change Makers’ Alliance, a voluntary organisation based in Koyra Upazila, Khulna, has organised a photography contest on Amphan-affected people, said a press release.
At least 17 people were killed as super cyclone Amphan battered 26 coastal and northern districts with hurricane strength winds for 15 hours between May 20 afternoon and May 21 morning.
The super cyclone weakened after making landfall in the coastal region of West Bengal in India near the Bangladesh border and moved across the shores of the two countries, it left a swathe of destruction.
Thousands of houses and other infrastructures such as bridges and government offices were damaged and vast agricultural land were either levelled or inundated in the affected districts.
Change Makers’ Alliance launched the contest on September 18. The event will continue till September 30.
Contestants have submitted photographs portraying devastation left by cyclone Amphan, sufferings of women, children and elderly in cyclone hit areas, sanitation and others. The pictures have been uploaded on the Facebook page of CMA.
The prize giving ceremony of the contest will be held on October 2. The top five winners will receive cash prize. Besides, all top twenty winners will receive certificates.
An album comprising best photographs will also be published.
Coastal Development Foundation is the title sponsor of this event while Parents Aging Foundation, a winner of Joy Bangla Youth Award, is the co-sponsor. Somoy TV, Desh Rupantor, Dainik Jaijaikal and Film TV are the media partners.
