Sufferings of the passengers and transport workers on south-western routes continued on Friday due to suspended ferry services, poor navigability, and strong currents in the River Padma.
The authorities suspended ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari waterways since Tuesday.
As a result, a good number of transport workers got stranded with their goods-laden vehicles at the terminal areas while the passengers paid extra to trawler staff for crossing the channel.
In the noon, over 700 vehicles were seen waiting into long queues on the highways adjacent to Paturia and Daulatdia ferry terminals to cross the River Padma.
At least 300 vehicles at Paturia Ghat, 250 on Dhaka-Aricha Highway, and 200 vehicles were stranded at Daulatdia Ghat area.
Since the last week of August, ferry services on these two water channels have been disrupted from time to time due to poor navigability, strong currents in the River Padma, and erosion.
Ferries at Shimulia ferry terminal were anchored at the pontoons.
