State minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has tested positive for COVID-19.
Khalid’s test report came positive on Tuesday, said a press release of the ministry, adding that he was now in isolation at his residence and doing well.
On September 12, Khalid visited Dhaka-Barishal river way along with ministry officials and journalists through a special water vessel of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.
Khalid is the fifth Bangladeshi minister to be tested positive for COVID-19.
Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq was infected with the novel coronavirus in June but recovered later.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs minister Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing was also tested positive for COVID-19 in June and recovered.
Environment, forest and climate change minister M Shahab Uddin tested positive for COVID-19 in August.
On June 14, state minister for religious affairs Sheikh M Abdullah died of COVID-19 at the CMH, Dhaka.
Meanwhile, AL joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim also tested positive for the virus Wednesday.
He was admitted to a hospital in the capital.
Including 50-year-old Khalid and Nasim, over two dozens of AL lawmakers have been tested positive for COVID-19 so far.
Of the infected lawmakers, Naogaon-6 constituency lawmaker M Israfil Alam died of pneumonia after contracting COVID-19 on July 27.
Earlier on June 13, Awami League MP for Sirajganj-1 and former health minister Mohammed Nasim died of COVID-19.
